MAKING PAPER AT HOME
In the book, "The Most Effective 100" that our Chairman Mr. Celal Çağlar bestows to employees the first eight names are listed as follows:
| • |
Mohammed the Prophet |
| • |
Isaac Newton |
| • |
Christ |
| • |
Buddha |
| • |
Confucius |
| • |
Saint Paul |
| • |
Ts'ai Lun (Invented the paper we use today) |
| • |
Johann Gutenberg (Invented the modern printing system) |
Isn't it interesting that two men related with paper appear right behind prophets among the list of "names that changed the world"? Is paper really this much important? When you read the thesis of the writer, it is impossible not to agree. As this has been the situation, the Turkish Paper Industry that was built up by the insistence of Atatürk we have to do some things in the name of appropriation to save this industry from the danger of vanishing.
The simplest and maybe the most important step we as an individual, we can put forward is help our children endear paper. To thrive this we have to introduce them paper and tell them its importance. Another dimension of the subject is that the recycle ratio of paper in the world in average is 40 %, in developed countries are at the level of 60 %, but in our country it is only 20 %. When we tell our children paper we have to tell them the importance of recycling. OYKA, by taking the waste paper recycling facility in service, has materialised an important contribution to the national responsibility on this issue.
The basic stages of paper production;
| • |
Preparation of paper paste, |
| • |
Draining the water of the paste (solution) by passing it through a sifter, |
| • |
Pressing the remaining plate (lamina) in the sifter |
| • |
Drying out the plate attained. |
We can imitate these stages by using the simple tools we can find at home. Of course the paper that is going to come out will be so much different from factory production (thicker, uneven and stained). Still during the last years making paper at home is quite widespread, not just an entertainment, especially in the developed countries. If this subject has drawn a little bit of your attention get ready, go to work for our children and for our country. |
